Informed Consent for Participation in Research

What this research study is about

EY Seren Limited (“EY Seren”) has been appointed by Nest to review and compare online pension experiences across different providers.

The purpose of this research is to better understand how people experience pension websites and apps, including what feels clear, useful, confusing or difficult when managing their pension online. The findings from this research will help identify opportunities to improve the Nest member experience.

You have been recruited by Take Part in Research as a research participant in the Project.

Your involvement in the study

We have provided a summary of how we will be approaching this research below, and we will be glad to answer any specific questions you may have about the Project.

The research session will take place remotely using Microsoft Teams and will last approximately 30 minutes.

During the session, we will ask you to:

log into your pension account

talk through your experience of using the website or app

complete a small number of simple tasks or actions

answer general questions about your experience

The session will be audio and video recorded for research purposes.

Because you may be sharing your screen during the session, some personal information may become visible, such as your name, pension balance, email address or other account details. We will not include personally identifiable information in research reporting or presentations shared outside the research team.

If sensitive information is accidentally captured during recording, EY Seren will take reasonable steps to remove, blur or anonymise it before sharing research outputs.

There are no right or wrong answers. We are interested in your honest experiences and feedback.

Your participation is voluntary

You may take a break or leave the Project at any time, for any reason. You also have the right to withdraw from the study after the session or make a complaint by emailing [email protected] and sharing the reference number, researcher’s name, and the date of your session – shown at the top of this page.

How we use your research data

The research team use the data gathered during the project to analyse the outcomes of the research, developing insights to help the Company develop their products and services in a way that meets the needs of the people using them. All responses are anonymised and aggregated so you will not be personally identifiable, and your name will not be associated with any data that is collected during the Project.

For the purposes of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (“UK GDPR”), the Data Protection Act 2018 and any equivalent or subsequent data protection legislation applicable to this Project, EY Seren are the data controllers, and Roots Research and any third parties supporting the administration of the research are data processors.

During your participation in the Project you will be audio-recorded, video-recorded and/or photographed. Any such recordings or photographs will constitute your Personal Data (as defined in the GDPR). If the research is taking place in your home, this will include the interior/exterior of your home and possessions, with your permission.

During your participation in the Project, EY Seren will also collect other types of your Personal Data, including but not limited to name, age, gender, and contact information.

[During your participation, you will also be observed by members of the research/design team, plus the Company. All observers are members of the team working on the Project.]

To complete the Project, EY Seren will store your Personal Data on its secure internal computer systems.

EY Seren will not transfer your Personal Data to the Company. EY Seren will only present anonymised data and/or aggregated, themed insights to share its findings in relation to the Project.

EY Seren will delete your Personal Data one year after the Project has ended.

EY Seren will need to provide your full name to the Venue for administrative purposes. The Venue will delete your Personal Data one year after the project has ended.

All research activity is being conducted in accordance with the Market Research Society’s Code of Conduct and relevant data protection legislation where the research activity is taking place.

Your consent

I give my consent for:

Members of the project team observing the session and capture notes

The session audio to be recorded for the specific purpose of this research

Sharing my screen and demonstrating my pension account during the session

My personal data being collected and processed for the purposes of this research project

Anonymised findings and insights from my session being used in research reporting and presentations

My Personal Data in connection to the Project outlined above to be collected, stored and processed for the duration of one year after the project has ended.

Your agreement to participate

I have read this consent form in its entirety, agree to the terms, and voluntarily agree to participate in the Project with EY Seren collecting and using my data as outlined above for the purpose of this research. I am aware that I can withdraw my consent at any time. I can do this by emailing [email protected] and sharing the reference number, researcher’s name, and the date of your session – shown at the top of this page.
