Connections


This authorisation form is between you (the “Tester”) and Teal Connect Ltd (“Teal”), a
company registered in the United Kingdom. Roots has recruited you for this testing
session on Teal’s behalf but is not a data controller for the personal data collected during the session

By signing this form, you confirm that you understand and agree to the following:

Participation

1. Voluntary participation. You are voluntarily participating in a payroll connection
testing session with Teal. You may stop the session at any time, for any reason, without
penalty. You will still receive compensation for the portion of the session completed.

2. Compensation. You will be compensated with £40 per session, payable upon
completion (including payslip upload).

Your Data

3. What you will share. Before or during the session, you will provide Teal with the
following personal details: your name, surname, National Insurance number, postcode,
and date of birth. These details are needed to initiate a payroll connection via IRIS and
match your identity to your payroll records. Teal will only collect the minimum
information required for this purpose

You will also upload your three most recent payslips before the session. These are used
solely as a reference to verify that the data retrieved through the IRIS connection
matches your actual payroll records. Your payslips will not be shared with any third party

4. What the session involves. The session will include:

  • Connecting your payroll account through IRIS (via your employer’s payroll
    provider) using Teal’s webapp and a secure link.
  •  Teal retrieving minimised verification outputs (identity, employment status, and
    income data) through the connection. Teal does not access or store your full, raw
    payroll data.
  •  Reviewing the retrieved data during the session, including screen sharing where
    needed, so Teal can confirm the verification outputs match your payslips and
    payroll records. Screen sharing is live only and will not be recorded unless you are
    informed and give separate permission.
  • Answering short feedback questions about your experience.

5. Purpose. The purpose of this session is strictly to test and validate the technical
functionality of Teal’s Direct Connection via IRIS: specifically, to confirm that the payroll
connection retrieves accurate, minimised verification outputs that match your actual
payroll records. Data collected during this session will not be used for any commercial
verification, lending decision, credit assessment, or other purpose.

Data Protection

6. Lawful basis. Teal processes your personal data for this testing session on the basis of legitimate interests (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f)). Teal's legitimate interest is to test and
validate the technical functionality of its IRIS Direct Connection to ensure accurate,
minimised verification outputs. Teal has assessed that this processing is necessary,
limited in scope and duration, and that your rights and freedoms are not overridden given the safeguards in this form. By signing this form, you acknowledge you have been
informed of this processing.

7. Data retention. Your personal data (including uploaded payslips and any data retrieved through the IRIS connection) will be retained only for the duration needed to complete testing validation. Teal will delete or anonymise all personal data collected during this session within 30 days of the session date

8. Third parties. Roots Research Ltd (Take Part in Research) recruited you for this session on behalf of Teal. Roots does not have access to the personal data you provide during the session itself (including your NI number, payroll connection data, and payslips). Teal will not share your personal data with any other third party except where required by law.

9. Security. Your data will be handled securely, encrypted in transit and at rest, and
processed in accordance with UK data protection law (the UK General Data Protection
Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018).

Your Rights

10. Right to object and withdrawal. You can withdraw your authorisation or object to the processing of your personal data at any time, during or after the session, by contacting Teal at [email protected]. If you do so, Teal will immediately stop processing your personal data and will delete it in accordance with clause 7, unless Teal can demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds for continued processing.

11. Your data rights. Under UK data protection law, you also have the right to:

  • Request access to a copy of your personal data held by Teal
  • Request correction of any inaccurate personal data
  • Request deletion of your personal data
  • Request restriction of processing in certain circumstances
  • Lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk
    if you believe your data has been mishandled
