Give your consent to take part in user research - HEAT

Understanding your participation

This information page tells you about who we are, the research we're doing, and how we will use the information you give us.

Who are we, and what are we doing?

We are working on behalf of the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) to develop a new digital service. We want to get your feedback to better understand user needs and preferences regarding this. Your participation is crucial in helping us create a service that truly meets the needs of its users.

What is involved in taking part?

The researcher will ask you a range of questions to help us understand what people need from this new digital service.

This will take place in a 45 minute Microsoft Teams session. Across the 45 minutes we will ask a series of questions and ask for feedback on some content that we will share. No preparation is required before your interview, and importantly, there are no right or wrong answers. Your feedback and responses will help us develop a better service for users like yourself.

A couple of project team members will join the research session as observers and note takers. They will join with their cameras and microphones off but might ask a few questions at the end of the session.

You will receive a £40 incentive for your participation, which will be provided by Roots Research after the session. Participation is voluntary, and you can take a break or withdraw at any time without penalty.

How do we use your information and ensure your privacy?

With your consent we will record the research session and take notes for analysis purposes. This raw data will not be viewed or shared, beyond the research team. All your comments and feedback will be anonymised by our research team before being shared with the broader project team. This means that any personal data such as locations, will be generalised to ensure that you cannot be identified. You can withdraw your consent until insights have been anonymised.

We may use your anonymised comments and feedback in reports to share our findings within the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero and the wider government. We will not use your name or any other identifiable information.

We will keep your contact information secure within the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. We will retain any personal data from the research session only for as long as needed for the project, typically up to 4 months, after which it will be securely destroyed.
